Lesson One- Government

The Republic of Tiernan is a meritocratic socialism. Meritocratic means that there are no restrictions based on age or gender. Everyone is judged based on their merit. It is socialist in the sense that everybody gets a certain amount of money from the government every year. Not enough to make them comfortable, but enough so they won't starve (in theory).

1-A: Executive

The head of the government is the Chancellor. He is elected every three years by the people of the Republic of Tiernan. He (or she) decides what the national budget is, decides who to appoint to positions in national offices (see below), and decides when to enter into foreign relations. Every Chancellor chooses two Assistant Chancellors while running for office.

The national offices are seven branches under the executive branch of the government that control specific aspects of the nation. Some national offices have their own sub-offices. The national offices are the:

1-B: Judiciary

The Judiciary section of government interprets the law of the Republic of Tiernan. There are five judges on the High Court of the Republic of Tiernan. They act quite similarly to the Supreme Court justices of the United States or the Supreme Court of the United Kingdom in the sense that they have the final say in a dispute over personal rights.

The second level of court in the Republic of Tiernan are called the Appellate Courts. A person goes to the Appellate Courts if they want to dispute a ruling made by the Trial Court, the lowest court level.

1-C: Lawmaking

The lawmaking body of the Republic of Tiernan is called the House of Delegates. It contains a delegate from each territory that the Republic of Tiernan owns. A territory may choose not to elect a delegate to the House of Delegates, as the Martian territory has done.

Lesson Two- Military

The Republic of Tiernan military comprises of three branches: The Republic of Tiernan Army, the Republic of Tiernan Air Force, and the Republic of Tiernan Navy. Each branch has it's own set of ranks, jobs, and duties.

The Republic of Tiernan military is headed by either a Fleet General, Fleet Captain, or a Force Captain that is chosen by the Chancellor the day he or she takes office. This person is known as the Chief Advisor of Military Operations, or 'CAMO' for short. It is the CAMO's decision to declare war and negotiate treaties. If a CAMO decides to declare war, he or she must choose three people to command each of the armed services, a General of the Army, a General of the Air Force, and an Admiral of the Navy. The current three are General Gerard O'Brien, General Hobbes Low, and Admiral Juniper Low, respectively.

Lesson Three- Law Enforcement

The civilian law enforcement agency is known as the Tiernan Federal Police, or TFP for short. Similar to the military, there is a rank structure to the TFP, which is as follows:

A TFP federal officer may become qualified as a Criminal Police Inspector upon passing an exam, and is then assigned to one of the TFP's specialised divisions. There are seven divisions of the TFP, each one is highly trained in investigating a certain area of criminal activity. The seven divisions are the Homicide Unit, the Robbery Unit, the Sex Crimes Unit, the Cybercrimes Division, the Gang Task Force, the Hostage and Ransom Unit, and the Juvenile Crimes Division.

3-A: Military Law Enforcement

Military law enforcement is handled similarly to civilian law enforcement, except for the fact that there is no distinction between criminal police inspectors and standard duty officers, as well as the fact that there are no specialised divisions. Each service has it's own law enforcement, the Army Criminal Investigative Division (ACID), the Air Force Criminal Investigative Division (AFCID), and the Navy Criminal Investigative Division (NCID).

Lesson Four- History

This is a very short lesson, as the Republic of Tiernan has only been in existence since August 2009.

August 25^th, 2009- Meritocratic Socialist Republic of Tiernan founded.

November 2009- Present day military and law enforcement established.

December 1^st, 2009- Lieutenant Captain Juniper Low commands the first naval operation of the Republic of Tiernan.

December 5^th, 2009- First armed conflict takes place against radical insugrents attempting to cross the border into the Republic of Tiernan, first military decoration awarded.

December 23^rd, 2009- Current government drafted.

January 2^nd, 2010- Constitution of the Meritocratic Socialist Republic of Tiernan adopted.

February 9^th, 2010- Force Captain declares war on East Germany.
